rockstar : supernova : week three

so after spending the week looking forward to this show i had to miss the first broadcast of it - seems my kitten artemis had decided to tear out all but one of her stitches during the day. so after an emergency trip to the vet and ordering pizza - i finally got to sit down with the taped show. gotta love the rogers pvr. i guess it's the canadian equivilent to the almighty tivo. but really, who knows (or cares).

patrice - helter skelter
apparently she had to FIGHT to get this song. ok. great. but i didn't see as much of that passion in her performance as i saw in the clips showing the 'debate' between jill and patrice.

josh - come as you are
i don't think i'm able to write about this performance. i just don't get josh as a performer. then again - it's not my band, is it? if supernova wants this grinning annoyance to front their band - that's their business. kurt - i'm sorry if you saw that performance from wherever it is you are now.

storm - just what i needed
what i just adore about storm is that she can sing pretty and clean and she can also deliver a dirty performance like this. messy but polished. and this woman's eyes seem to nearly sing the songs themselves. so expressive.

lukas - let's spend the night together
fucking unbelievable. seriously - where can i buy these tracks? lukas' and dilanah's performances and abilty are simply millions of miles above anyone else on this show (storm and magni are the closest out of everyone else). it's almost not fair to have those two compete against everyone else.

jill - all right now
damn this girl can sing. and she so obviously loves doing what she does. she'll be around for a while.

ryan star - fortunate son
right from the beginning his performances have bugged me. he gives off he aura that he believes he's the real deal - it's just too bad that he doesn't give real deal performances. i don't actually believe that he's a musician - something just smacks false.

phil - white rabbit (w/ jason newsted)
this was the best of phil to date. he really gave a great performance, perhaps it was the extra jolt he got from actually performing with such a distinctive bassist. it was so nice to see/hear that metallica thing.... wow. ok - i admit, i was a little distracted. ok... maybe i liked it more because of jason.

dana - it's my life
i really want this girl to do better. she has a great voice and i can see her eventually developing a great stage presence, but right now i just see her trying to be something that she's not 100% sure of. and was this song just in the wrong key for her, or what?

toby - runaway train
so so sad to see this performance. way way way to straight. couldn't he of been messy and quirked this up a little? he should of. but i think his performance was best summed up by my roomie : "he reminds me of charlie's older uncle". you know, charlie from lost... anyway... i started cackling madly.

magni - plush
one of my favourite songs ever and he didn't make me cringe! ;-> i'm half tempted to make an attempt to find some music from his band in iceland. he has attitude, vocal chops, rockstar delivery and he still makes me want to hug him like a teddy bear.

zayra - everybody hurts
i hope she stays on this show for a very long time - top 6 at least. and then when she finally gets asked to leave, i will be the first one on line to buy her album. i LOVE this woman's voice and style. i want more and more and more of her.

jenny - drive
oh good god. i'm sorry. this sucked for supernova - did anyone happen to catch the look on poor jason newsted's face mid-way through? he looked utterly bewildered. and the lilith fair comment was exactly what i was thinking. does she want this gig?

dilanah - zombie
the way she moves across the stage is so otherworldy, as is her command of the stage and every song she takes on. i've heard other singers attempt to deliver the song 'zombie' and fail to even match a drop of dolores o'riordon's passion. not our dilanah. she seemed to wring new emotion out of that powerful song.

if you want even more rockstar : supernova to tide you over until the elimination show tomorrow - check out this good review.
